9 Ways to Repurpose a Google Hangout on Air (HOA)

  1. Live Recording – Original recording on Google+
  2. YouTube Video – Original recording on YouTube
  3. Multiple Videos – Download MP4 and edit into shorter videos
  4. Facebook Video – Download MP4, edit and upload original to Facebook
  5. Podcast – Download MP4, convert into an MP3, load to Podcast hosting sites
  6. Blog Post – Write a blog post about what was discussed in recording
  7. Create Images – Take tips from recording and turn into multiple images
  8. Create a Presentation – Take the image tips, turn into a presentation, upload to slideshare
  9. Text Posts on Social Media – Take tips/quotes from recording and post to social media as text only

 

One of the many reasons I love HOA’s (Hangouts on Air) is for the repurposing of the content. The HOA is just a starting point that can be turned into multiple pieces of content for your social media platforms. With one HOA, you can get content for:

  • Google+
  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Slideshare
  • Podcast Platforms
  • Your Blog
  • Images and text posts for any social platform you prefer

Here’s a specific example breakdown of what we do with our show, SocialMediaHangoutTime.com.

  • We start by recording our show using a HOA.
  • We head over to YouTube, find the video, optimize and edit as needed.
  • Download the MP4 for the original video to be downloaded to your computer. We then edit small clips and upload to Facebook. I wrote a blog post on the specifics on how to do this HERE.
  • Next, we download the MP4 and convert to an MP3. Ryan Hanley wrote an excellent post on Social Media Examiner with the steps on how to do this. Read that post HERE.
  • Now for the Blog. We write a blog post about that specific show. We include an image, links to the Podcast channels and YouTube video is featured.
  • There’s still more. We pull awesome tips and quotes from our guests and pass those tips to our graphic designer. Then, he creates multiple images with those quotes on them.
  • Lastly, we take many of these awesome images and create a presentation from them. This presentation is uploaded to Slideshare.

Now, I’m sure even MORE could be done with one HOA, but this is how we repurpose our content. NOTE: If you are a guest on our show, you definitely get lots of exposure. 🙂
